PLANETA AT CASA PANITTERI LIVING IN A MUSEUM

The Planeta family’s hospitality is based in the heart of the historic centre of Sambuca di Sicilia, in a special space within the palazzo which also houses the Museo Panitteri. In 2018 Airbnb transformed it into one of their artists’ Houses and it is now one of our guest spaces.

The artist’s House

Art and design together create a cosy and welcoming space at Casa Panitteri, made even more delightful by the choices made by the curator Federica Sala who involved the architects of Eligo Studio in the design and the Marche painter Edoardo Piermattei in the artistic contributions.
Here may be found features from the past – such as marble floors, wrought iron details, stone surfaces and ancient amphorae – together with distinctive elements of contemporary design, thanks to collaboration with some well-known Italian and international firms such as Smeg, Biossi Home, Society Limonta, Diesel Living and Foscarini.
But the real heart of the house is Piermattei’s fresco painted on the ceiling of the living area and continued onto the splendid baldacchino bed, where one can sleep literally under a work of art inspired by the Italian Renaissance.
When sleeping at Casa Panitteri you can enjoy all the benefits of Planeta hospitality and also contribute to the financing of cultural projects for the local community, given that part of the proceeds will be directed for that purpose to the Comune of Sambuca di Sicilia, owner of the building.
The house is 57 sq. metres, ideal for 2 people, and consists of a hall, passage, living room with kitchen, bathroom and large bedroom
In the living area, the kitchen was supplied by Smeg and Fantin, and the rocking chair is by Mario Milana
The table accessories were selected from the Bitossi Home collection and textiles are from Societa Limonta
The sleeping area is furnished with a Diesel Living bed and the Discus table lamp is by Matter Made
Bathroom furniture was provided by Bagno Fiorentino
Lighting is by Foscarini

SAMBUCA DI SICILIA

The historic roots of the Planeta family are to be found at Sambuca di Sicilia, previously awarded the title of ‘Town of towns’ in 2016. The historic centre lies a few minutes from our Ulmo winery and the location of Casa Panitteri is ideal for making enchanting strolls through Arab lanes. The Casa itself is in the same building that houses the town’s Archaeological Museum, which conserves items excavated from the archaeological zone of Monte Adranone which overlooks the whole valley.
A short distance away is the Mu.Di.A., Museo d’Arte Sacra, with a small collection of treasures displayed in a pretty deconsecrated chapel. The solemn wooden figures, paintings and religious vestments belonged to Monsignor Diego Planeta.
Sambuca di Sicilia is a town of Arab origin
Sambuca di Sicilia is a member of the association ‘I Borghi piu’ belli d’Italia’, small towns which are important for their historic, artistic and cultural antecedents, for the harmony of their urban design, for their lifestyle and their facilities

IN THE LAND OF WINE

Within the scope of the Iter Vitis-Magon itinerary, based on an appreciation of wine culture’s archaeological heritage, an important halt is at the ancient wine press in the Bosco della Risinata above lake Arancio, which is witness to the thousand-year vocation of vine cultivation in the territory of Sicily. The press is carved out of the rock, unique in Sicily for its monumental size, and was situated on the hill to have direct sight lines to the heights of the ancient urban centres of Monte Adranone and Monte Castellazzo di Poggioreale above the valley of the river Belice, which had an important role in controlling one of the most important agricultural areas in the Chora of Selinunte.

Casa Planeta’s Hospitality

Winery Experience
We have always united a passion for Sicily with the wish to enthusiastically welcome whoever wishes to visit it. Our wineries have never been spaces dedicated only to wine production, but are also places of hospitality. We have developed this hospitality at the Ulmo estate, as at Noto and Etna, as an actual group of experiences based on each territory and to each guest, linking them to the uniqueness of the wines and the beauty of the countryside.
